In January 2021, the Cape Cormorants were released into their natural environment. 811 out of 2038 cormorant chicks did not survive their suffering after the first 7 days. For SANCCOB, so many deaths have been a suffering despite the record release rate reaching 52%.
Due to a strong storm, a rescue took place in the Western Cape on June 30, 2021. 69 young chicks and 36 eggs (only 19 of which showed signs of live embryos) were recovered and moved to central Cape Town.
In June, the first release of African penguins in De Hoop nature reserve took place. 58 young penguins were released thanks to the partnership between BirdLife South Africa, CapeNature and SANCCOB. 4 African penguins were fitted with GPS trackers to monitor their movements after release.
To make your loved ones happy, SANCCOB allows you to offer electronic adoption! This gift will also be an opportunity to do a good deed because your donation will be used to cover the cost of the care of your bird in the facilities of Cape Town or Gqeberha.
