Since the end of March, the Institute for Ecological Research has carried out two expeditions. The first was to check camera trap grids and replace batteries and cards. Regarding the second expedition, which was longer, the goal was to find and monitor the giant armadillos.
Sara is the youngest female watched by The Giant Armadillo Conservation team. Still occupying her mother's territory, she should soon leave it. The teams would like to try to follow in his footsteps anyway. The giant armadillo mother is due to give birth soon! It's getting rarer and rarer, so that's good news.
Deforestation is raging and threatens the survival of giant armadillos in the region. From 2020 to 2019, deforestation increased by 43%. Another threat is the construction of a possible second highway in the Sooretama reserve. The association is therefore working with NGOs to protect the giant armadillos as much as possible from extinction. You too, help protect the giant armadillos! Every donation counts.
