The situation of giant armadillos in South America
Two expeditions led by PEI
Since the end of March, the Institute for Ecological Research has carried out two expeditions. The first was to check camera trap grids and replace batteries and cards. Regarding the second expedition, which was longer, the goal was to find and monitor the giant armadillos.

Threats still present
Deforestation is raging and threatens the survival of giant armadillos in the region. From 2020 to 2019, deforestation increased by 43%. Another threat is the construction of a possible second highway in the Sooretama reserve.
