There are several theories about the usefulness of zebra stripes, but none of them has been really confirmed or denied. For some, the stripes would allow the zebra, in the shade during the day and during the night, to go unnoticed, the contrasts created by its movements disturbing the vision of its predators. For others, the stripes, by concentrating the light, would allow the zebra to protect itself from the horseflies and other external parasites. Finally, for the latter, the stripes would facilitate thermoregulation of the animal.
