Musa basjoo is the most famous of the ornamental banana trees, thanks to its excellent resistance to our cold, damp winters. The Japanese banana plant is one of the few perennial plants that produce suckers and can be grown in our region. A sucker is a plant that grows some distance from the parent plant, sprouting from one of its roots. The banana plant does not have a trunk but rather a stipe, formed by the leaf sheaths overlapping one another.
