A sturdy and elegant palm tree
Trachycarpus fortunei is a dioecious species: it requires both a female and a male plant to reproduce. In some cases, it may be monoecious and able to reproduce on its own. The fruits containing the seeds appear in large numbers. It has a high reproductive capacity and can be difficult to control in certain regions. It has been designated an “invasive plant” in several countries. Locally, it hinders forest regeneration and leads to a depletion of the understory.
The fibers from my stem (trunk) are used to make brushes, ropes, clothing, mattress stuffing, and more... The wood from my stem can also be used as a post, and my flowers are eaten as vegetables.
