Fir tree

The Nordmann fir is renowned for its perfect pyramidal shape. It makes a superb specimen tree when planted alone. Its size can be impressive in its natural habitat, where it can reach 60 meters in height with a trunk 2 meters in diameter.
It’s the new star tree for the holiday season. Native to the Caucasus, it is now intensively cultivated in Denmark. This industrial production accounts for 90% of Denmark’s total output. Only 20% of Christmas trees are grown in forests.

The Nordmann fir is what is known as a dryad. In fact, it will be the last to arrive when a forest is being established, once the forest environment is well established.
How? Thanks to its high tolerance for shade (a shade-loving species) during its juvenile stages. It then goes on to form the forest’s long-lived stands.

In recent years, the Nordmann fir has been replacing the common spruce as the tree of choice for the holiday season. It is better suited to the warmth of homes and retains its needles longer. Its perfect shape makes it ideal for decorations.
