Haute-Savoie Nature Conservation Agency

The Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Haute-Savoie (CEN 74), also known as Asters, is an organisation specialising in the protection of natural habitats and biodiversity in Haute-Savoie.

Established in 2000 (building on the work of older organisations active since 1982), it has been working for several decades to preserve the exceptional natural wealth of the Alpine region.

CEN Haute-Savoie is a recognised leader for its scientific and technical expertise, working in partnership with local authorities, researchers and residents to manage, restore and enhance natural areas.

It is part of a national network of conservatories working throughout France to protect nature.

What was the money used for?

The bearded vulture is one of the most endangered species in Europe, classified as “endangered” on the national Red List and as “critically endangered” in the Alps according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It is the subject of a National Action Plan (NAP) coordinated by Asters-CEN74 in the French Alps.

One of the NAP’s objectives is to ensure the operation of the breeding center for the production of chicks for reintroduction programs, with the aim of restoring the Alpine population through population growth, geographic distribution, and genetic diversification.

The Le PAL NATURE FOUNDATION is participating in this European Endangered Species Program (EEP) for the bearded vulture by purchasing an incubator.
