National Association of Donkey Friends

ADADA (the National Association of Donkey Friends) is a French charity that has been working for over 50 years to protect, defend and promote the welfare of donkeys.

Originally, the association’s aim was to restore the image of the donkey, which was threatened with extinction due to the mechanisation of agriculture. Today, its remit has evolved to address new challenges, notably the rise in abandonment and cases of abuse.

ADADA takes practical action by taking in donkeys in distress (abandoned, abused or whose owners can no longer care for them) from all over France. These animals are taken to a sanctuary in the Puy-de-Dôme, where they receive veterinary care, food and appropriate support before, if possible, being put up for adoption.

Beyond this rescue mission, the association also carries out awareness-raising and information campaigns aimed at the public and prospective owners to prevent abandonment.

Thanks to a network of volunteers, staff and partners, ADADA actively contributes to improving the welfare of donkeys in France and promoting respect for this often misunderstood animal.

What was the money used for?

The donation from the Le PAL NATURE Foundation has helped to stabilise the outdoor areas, making it easier for the donkeys to move around.
