The grey wolf

From 19 April 2025, you will be able to meet our two European wolves.

Meet our two European wolves

Boréas, the female, is three years old. She comes from the Domaine des Grottes de Han in Belgium.

Aravis, the male, also aged 3, comes from Eindhoven Zoo in the Netherlands.

These two new arrivals are replacing the pack of wolves from Canada (1 brother and his two sisters) who have left for Spain, to Bioparque La Rocha.

Find out more!

This discreet predator lives in family packs of four to five individuals on average at the end of winter. They consist of a dominant pair, their pups and sometimes older young. The latter leave the pack in spring, a period when they are vulnerable and inexperienced.

What about conservation?

With these new arrivals, we hope to form a new pair and create a new pack. This exchange of wolves is part of an EEP (European Endangered Species Programme) which embodies the conservation mission of Le PAL animal park and aims to preserve the species by promoting its reproduction in a protected environment.

The expression ‘marcher à la queue leu leu’ (to walk in single file) refers to wolves! Wolves move one behind the other, and in Old French, “leu” means ‘wolf’.
