Not one, but two new faces!
Wednesday June 24 at 5:30 am, Katty one of our female seals gave birth to her baby. It wasn't until 4 days later that July, our second female seal, gave birth to her baby.
Homer, the parent is very proud to see the family grow. He nevertheless stays away because mothers have a very developed maternal instinct and are very protective.
The young "puppies" went into the water 1 to 2 hours after their birth, in fact, the baby seal is already equipped with its diving suit because the placenta corresponds to its first moult.
Moms will breastfeed their baby for 2 months. Then the keepers will give small-fish to the newborns with which they will play at first, and which they will learn to swallow very quickly!
In a few weeks, the animal team will carry out a control to determine the sex of the small mammals because the genitals are internal and the skin is not tight enough the first days.
