Wildlife Angel is not a typical NGO; it is an operational organization built around three key pillars:
-
Involving local governments in decision-making and the implementation of field operations while fully respecting their sovereignty.
-
Engaging local communities to make them effective actors in biodiversity protection: without village communities, the challenge is impossible to overcome.
-
Developing a true career path for rangers, as the training usually provided is often just a one-time skill boost without a sustainable vision.
To successfully carry out their project, there are three training phases to prepare the Spotters: a 2-day training in France, a 2-hour online meeting, and a 1.5-day training session in Namibia. Usually scheduled over a weekend based on a yearly calendar, this training is delivered by official Wildlife Angel instructors with extensive field mission experience and thorough knowledge of the area concerned. This session provides the essential foundation for understanding the Spotter mission.
The exchange between candidates, a Major Spotter, and Wildlife Angel board members offers an operational perspective on what is expected from Spotters. An acclimation phase before starting the mission is necessary to acquire the essential practical skills.
